Hello darkness my old friend...

Oh good. Our three highest paid blueliners are unavailable. That's just wonderful.

Well, the Leafs can now fit Erik Karlsson's salary without any retention as we've got over 13M on LTIR

So goalies 1-2-3 and defensemen 1-2-3 have all been hurt this year.

Cool

Kerfoot to Winnipeg for DeMelo?

Both players are struggling a little bit. DeMelo isn't an offensive guy necessarily but he has just 2 points in 14 games this season and seems pretty firmly Winnipeg's #5 defenceman right now. Kerfoot has just 6 points in 20 games and hasn't quite found a spot in the line-up yet this season.

The Leafs injury problems on defence are obvious. Winnipeg is having injury troubles up front. They lost Ehlers after 2 games this season and it was just announced he's out indefinitely after having hernia surgery. Mason Appleton replaced him on Winnipeg's top line for the most part and he was just announced out for 8-12 weeks.

Kerfoot won't replace Ehlers, just like DeMelo won't replace Rielly, but it certainly seems like a move that can help both teams out. DeMelo has a $3mil AAV with 1 year left on it after this one. So a pretty even swap cap wise, which is probably best for the Leafs since they still need to wait for Muzzin's status to move from 99% out for the season to 100% before they can eat into his LTIR space.

I endorse this suggestion. Would also not mind Kerfoot for Heinola, come to think of it, but that doesn't address a today need other than cap space.

There's some silver lining here: finally finally finally 37 & 38 get top[ 4 minutes, no questions asked.  Let's watch them grow (hopefully).

And not to belittle Rielly too much, but he hasn't scored a goal this season even with prime PP1 time.  I'll make a bold prediction: if they let Sandin or Liljegren QB PP1, they'll score a goal within 3 games.
