It sucks to see this happen to Muzzin, especially since he looked just about at the top of his game during playoffs last year. Defencemen like him as so rare. A tough, rugged, physical defencemen who is actually also good defensively. And not only that, can produce offence at a decent rate too. Since Barrie left the only defenceman other than Rielly to score at a 40-point pace was Muzzin in 20/21, and that was almost entirely even strength points too. The last Leafs defenceman like him was Robert Svehla, and he was 20 years ago now (jesus).

ZBBM is a big Svehla guy, right?

I loved that guy.

I mean, he was no Yushkevich but whatever.

Svehla, Yushkie, and let's not forget Markov.  Loved 'em all.

And I uh er ah am also still a fan of Schenn.  But except for Svehla none of these guys were/are much of an offensive threat.

Gutted to hear this, on a Leafs fan point of view, but also for Muzzin, who while being a top player also seems like just a really solid guy. I hope that he doesn't try and come back, however, if there is even a 0.0001% chance of another knock making him any worse.

Would've been great to get Muzz back for a playoff run but I think we all knew he wasn't coming back. Too bad really because we sure could use a guy like him.
