There was nothing to see this coming, he wasn't even a big producer at the AHL level.  Before last season he had played 37 NHL games and had 2 goals and 10 points, so last year was a huge surprise to everyone.

Yes I know that it's not so much the lack of points or goals it's the effort from Matthews that has been disappointing. Barely been noticeable and that's concerning being an elite player especially against some weak opponents.
