I haven't looked too much into this, but doesn't this feel like the Kessel trade? I guess the biggest difference is Ottawa knows what draft position they are giving up.

They're also giving up a lot less value, though they're getting fewer years of control. And knowing where the top picks they're giving up are in the draft order is a pretty significant difference.

Ottawa also has better young talent than the Leafs did at that point - which, granted, is a low bar, but still a substantial difference.
