I believe the theory that this was leaked for contract negotiation purposes.  It also further cements in my mind that he will be resigned and not dealt. The Leafs would not want to have a lowball offer like this leaked if they wanted to up the ante on another trade as in essence it does the opposite and makes his trade value look weak.
