They're a scrappy team that plays hard. They definitely make teams earn wins. They're just lacking in talent.

I appreciate the attempt to sort of get a handle on teams in the greater picture but there really aren't any teams in the NHL that I'd say "Well, they're bad but they also don't play hard". Even the Sabres, as they've shown against the Leafs, have some zip. The league is too strong for any teams to be terrible and lazy.
