Guilt Trip you think you could get Chychrun straight up for Nylander? If so would you make that trade?

What else is Arizona adding? Because, that's a HUGE overpayment.

As much as Nylander has struggled a bit our forward depth gets really suspect without Nylander

Definitely.

Well, I'm out.  This is the d-man I was hoping for.  Guess the deal was too rich for the Leafs blood.

Rumour is he has all the Canadian teams on his no-trade list.  Did not want to come to a place with Covid restrictions.

Yup, can't trade for a guy who won't waive to come here.

We've already acquired a physical defenceman who's better than Manson anyway.

This is correct. He is a better puck mover than he was allowed to show in Arizona too, and unlike the last RD from Russia we had in a prominent role, he can also complete a 5 foot pass. Also, for all that the Coyotes suck at, they've developed some good short-games in their players (i.e. the ones that we got from them).

Most of the insider chatter surrounding the Leafs defense trade target is centered on pending UFA Hampus Lindholm, who used to be very very good and is now pretty good. In his prime, he was a more defensively inclined version of Rielly (the player drafted just before him).

Colorado clears cap space and gets an arguably better player in return. Definitely seems like a team that's ready to go all in.

Also, ignoring the fact that I say this about multiple college free agents every year and almost all of them don't actually pan out, I just want to point out that I did say the Leafs should sign Sturm back in 2019. He seems to have become a pretty solid 4C.

I was going to say something to the effect that the lack of Leafs prospects is why they can't have nice things, but that's not true.  The Leafs have nice things, the lack of prospects and the cost of those nice things that they already have means they can't have more nice things.

Pre-Covid, I think the cap was projected to go up to $100million with the new TV deal.  The unexpected Covid drop was timed to hurt the leafs much more than other teams. Without it, Toronto would have their top talent locked in and cap space to add more.  It wouldn't have been necessary to give up guys like Kapanen and Hyman.

They were never going to pay Hyman what he got and Kappy was let go because he didn't fit in  the top 6 on this team. He couldn't play the off wing and our RWs were set.
