My interest in the World Juniors has really tempered with all of the Hockey Canada stuff.

Still 7 point night for Connor Bedard last night

Yeah but it's not interesting watching the team beat up an obviously inferior opponent.

Another one coming today against Austria.

Yeah. It's maybe not fair to the kids on the current team but on the same level, my issue with Hockey Canada wasn't really that there were some lousy people on previous teams but rather the institution. Like even putting behind the assaults and slush funds, the fact that Hockey Canada board members were getting fancy hotels paid for and getting rings when the teams won was indicative of an organization I wouldn't really want to support regardless.
I wish to hell I'd never said "Winning isn't everything it's the only thing". What I believe is, if you go out on a football field, or any endeavour in life, and you leave every fibre of what you have on the field, then you've won.

I've actually been impressed by the number of upsets in the opening round. Not saying that it's heading toward parity, but it's nice to see the have-nots get a measure of pride now and again.

I'll never understand the refs putting away their whistles. This is becoming a dirty game.

8G 13A 21P in 5 games.  It's going to be fun having TSN/Sportsnet try and create a debate on 1st overall this year.

In watching the wjc, I can't recall a canadian team that was so annoying about tapping sticks on the ice for passes. The defencemen on the point were constantly doing it.

Even on bedard's OT goal, there's some kid tapping for a pass in a non-shooting position. Yeah, I'm pretty sure that I'd rather have bedard with the puck. On the 3rd goal as well, another kid tapping for a pass from the goal scorer. Knock it off. That's house league shit.

I'll never understand why more teams weren't just outright tanking for Bedard before this season.

From what I saw against Slovakia it really feels like its Bedard and the rest. If Bedard doesn't score the team can't make up for it. I really don't buy that this is one of the most talented teams in history. I wonder if they'd even win that game if Slovakia had Slafkovsky.

Hard to say. The score was extremely generous to slovakia, Canada dominated most of the game, the big weak point for Canada is the goaltending, and that's a problem. There's definitely some good players out there apart from Bedard, but he's so much better that he's overshadowing everyone else.

What goals were a goaltending problem last night? The kids made a couple of great saves in OT. Goaltending hasn't been an issue yet.

In the first game against the Czechs, the Canadian goaltender was pulled after several soft goals on route to the loss, and in this game, the save percentage was <.900. The games against germany and austria could have had a cardboard cutout, and that leaves the sweden game as the only outlier.

Goaltending saved their ass last night.
