Wouldn't be the first time a big centreman spent some time playing in Switzerland before coming back to play with the Leafs.

I don?t know how much Thornton could really contribute at this phase of his career but it certainly would be exciting seeing him in a Leaf uniform.

And if it did happen it proves Dubas isn?t affected by being jilted the first time around. (See TJ Brodie)

Just wanted to demonstrate how the Leafs could fit Thornton into our cap structure, this is currently what the roster would look like:

Hyman-Matthews-Marner
Kerfoot-Tavares-Nylander
______-______-Simmonds
Robertson-Spezza-Engvall

Rielly-Brodie
Muzzin-Holl
Lehtonen-Bogosian
_____

Andersen
Campbell

3 blank spaces for Thornton, Mikheyev, and Dermott with $3,588,967 in available cap space. If Engvall is sent down and replaced with Vesey then it's $3,763,967 in available cap space. I think you could split either of those 3 ways between those 3 players, unless Mikheyev gets a bigger than expected arbitration award like $2mil.

The other thing to keep in mind is that Thornton is eligible for performance bonuses in his contract because he's older than 35. I don't think this is something that Leafs would be too interested in doing since the bonuses might spill over to 21/22 but it's an option.

So leaving SJ to play somewhere else for an extended period of time doesn't seem to be an issue.

Thornton's wife is Swiss and he's got Swiss citizenship. So it's probably a case of them just living in a different one of their houses as opposed to moving.
I wish to hell I'd never said "Winning isn't everything it's the only thing". What I believe is, if you go out on a football field, or any endeavour in life, and you leave every fibre of what you have on the field, then you've won.

He was already riding out the league shutdown/playoffs in Switzerland so this is just practicing down the street.

Quote"It's a great honour that Joe has chosen to appear for the HCD for a third time in his incredible career," Davos coach Raeto Raffainer said in a translated statement. "And what I saw from him in training, he is absolutely capable of helping our team athletically. His kick-off, his puck control and his pass quality is still at an extremely high level. It will be a great pleasure for all hockey fans to see him play on Swiss ice again."

Does anyone remember the story of why he wanted out of boston?

I don't believe he wanted/asked for a trade.

Maybe my memory is fuzzy on this,  it I thought he said something to the effect of he wouldn?t return or was holding out and there were all these rumours of toronto being in the mix.

It was mid season in his Hart trophy year, Bruins had lost 9 of 10.

Doesn't look like he missed a game in between his last game with Boston and first game with San Jose.

Maybe you got some of Kessel's situation mixed in there?

Would have liked to seen the look on the conductors face when he saw what was on the track ahead.  :o

Supposedly Jumbo was killed trying to lead a smaller elephant off the track called Tom Thumb and both died, in St.Thomas Ontario of all freaking places.
