Whoa, what a ride for 18 yr. old Canada's phenom Bianca Andreescu!

Sunday at Indian Wells in the BNP Paribas Open, Andreescu emerged victorious defeating eighth-seeded Angelique Kerber of Germany, enroute to making Canadian tennis history.

The  wildcard Andreescu becomes among the youngest winner at Indian Wells not seen since the U.S.' Serena Williams accomplished the feat twenty years prior. (Williams was all of 17).

It wasn't an easy victory for Andreesecu, considering the fact that all the hard work she put in to get to this point in the tournament, left her a little banged up and fatigued to boot.  But the Romanian-Canadian phenom did not disappoint, as she moved up in the rankings from 152 to...24th.  Yes, that fast.

With a nod to her country and supporters in Canada, plus acknowledging her many Romanian fans -- Andreescu is of Romanian descent -- with grace, poise, and that oh so Canadianness of traits that left many in the tennis world applauding her at every turn.

Foarțe bine, Bianca!

True sportsmanship: (in a very Canadian way)

Congratulations Bianca, on becoming the first Canadian woman in 50 years to win the Rogers Cup.  That has to be special.

I've long waited for Canadian to make a break through at a major (and I mean win one).  Raonic had high hopes, but hasn't been able to do it, we've had others over the years, but finally now I hope Bianca can be the one.  She's a fighter, let's hope she can continue to grow her game and one day win a major.

She can start with the US Open in the next few weeks.

Last night was almost 1 AM before that match was done. Late night.

TSN radio just said that tomorrow she is on at 7:30 PM. Much better for people who need sleep.

Mark your calendars!

Bianca Andreescu vs Serena Williams  U.S. Open Final  Saturday September 7th, 2019.  4pm  TSN

Yes, you read it correctly.  For the first time ever, a Canadian has made it to the U.S.Open Final.
Andreescu is also the youngest player to have reached the U.S. Open Semifinal in more than a decade.

She defeated Elise Mertens of Belgium in the Quarterfinal, then disposed of Belinda Bencic (Switzerland) in the Semi-Final, and now will meet Serena Williams (USA) in the Final.

Andreescu is also the second Canadian (after Raonic at Wimbledon) to reach a Grand Slam Final.

The New York crowd can be quite unforgiving but Andreescu's steely & gutsy determination plowed through the adversity spewed by some of the hostile spectators.  As the saying goes,..."if you can make it here (New York), you can make it anywhere.."

Bianca has surely done that.

Genie Bouchard was the first to make a singles grand slam final in 2014.  That makes Andreescu the third Canadian to do so.

Incredible run Bianca has had this season.  I've never seen someone fight and figure out her opponent the way she does at this young an age- very impressive.

Peter D.

We'll see how she fares against a healthy Serena, but she has all the talent and the right mindset to get it done.
