The Toronto Blue Jays (61-72) visit Oriole Park @ Camden Yards in a four-game series against the Baltimore Orioles (68-65).

The Orioles are just 1.5GB for the second WC spot in the A.L., while Toronto is a woeful 8.5 GB the WC spot.

For Orioles fans, these are exciting times, whereas for Blue Jay fans, these are pondering times such as why oh why has this season gone so wrong.

While Baltimore is into the thick of the WC race, the Jays are practically -- not mathematically or we should say officially yet -- out of the running for that most coveted spot.  Their blowout loss to the Boston Red Sox in their most recent home series just about killed any hopes the Jays may have had of climbing the A.L. WC standings.

So much for that.  The least Toronto could do is try to gain some sense of self-dignity, integrity, competitiveness or whatchamacallit.   And better still, to be the 'spoil sport' or as they say in sports the 'spoilers' for the opposition, the rest of the way.

Blue Jays 0   Orioles 1  13th

Talk about having played a heck of a game where everything is going so well and then...to lose a heartbreaker of a game.  Such was the scenario for the Blue Jays here on Friday as Baltimore scored the winning run on Jonathan Schoop's double that scored Machado to home plate.

It was a game that featured the MLB expanded roster call-ups for all teams, and as such for the Blue Jays it featured the likes of Hernandez (with a spectacular outfield catch), catcher Maille, infielder Richard Urena, and outfielder Michael Saunders, along with  reliever Carlos Ramirez.

For the two starting pitchers -- Joe Biagini for Toronto, and Kevin Gausman for Baltimore -- it was one of their better outings to date, as Gausman kept the Jays' bats at bay for seven innings,  while Biagini had his best game of his career  as a starter in also going seven innings and striking out ten.

Jays call-up, reliever Carlos Ramirez, also pitched solidly before giving way to Aaron Loup who was dinged with the Orioles' game-winning run.

In Thursday's 11--8 Blue Jay win, Kendrys Morales led the offensive charge with a 7 RBI game -- including three homers -- and closer Roberto Osuna collected his 35th save -- the first Blue Jay in franchise history to have done so in two consecutive seasons.

Blue Jays 4  Orioles  5  12th

Another extra-inning loss for the Jays, as they come away with a split in this four game series against Baltimore.  (Toronto won Saturday's game 7-2 on Josh Donaldson's pivotal three-run homer).

Jays starter Brett Anderson allowed three run on seven hits in 6+ innings.

Unfortunately, with the score at 4-3 with the Jays in the lead, closer Roberto Osuna blew the save on a homer by the Orioles Castillo.  That was Osuna's third blown save of the year.  Ugh.

Then, in the bottom of the 12th, it was Jays' reliever Danny Barnes' turn as Orioles Mark Trumbo hit an RBI single to drive in the winning run at home plate.  Game over.

That effectively ties him for the most blown saves in the major leagues this year.  It was also his sixth since the All-Star break. Geez, nothing has gone right for the Jays this year, even though Roberto has had by far and wide a better year than most of his teammates.
