Scrivens? (runs away.)

I literally was going to post that too.  And why not?  None of those goalies is anything other than a stopgap.

It just feels to me that whatever "problems" the Leafs had with the cap going into this offseason seemed like ones with relatively simple solutions. Maybe it's a product of the good work this group has done in regards to the cap but it's been nothing more than a thing to just look at as opposed to worry about.

Back-ups by their nature are largely impermanent. The why not is that Scrivens is coming off two terrible seasons while there are options coming off of ok to good seasons. I think for a decision like that asking "why" is probably the priority and "because he used to play here" isn't much.
I wish to hell I'd never said "Winning isn't everything it's the only thing". What I believe is, if you go out on a football field, or any endeavour in life, and you leave every fibre of what you have on the field, then you've won.

This has been a weird offseason, bordering on disappointing.

Remove Matthews from the equation and I agree.

Fair enough. Honestly,  I really don't care who the backyp is. Just hoping for a serviceable body.

I don't know. Maybe, "well they haven't done anything stupid" is a good thing... That's where I'm at.

This seems like an odd move.  Just have to wait and see if the cap savings is used on anything else.  Otherwise why not ride the year out and see how things go.  Whether that means being able to trade him or simply letting him walk next summer.

My guess for backup: Lindback.

No Sparks for backup?

Any any idea what the condition is? Going to make a big difference if there is a 1st round pick on the line vs a 7th round pick.

I kind of don't want them to use up any more cap space.

I was all for using it to spend on something elite like Stamkos, but I don't think this team needs anymore $3mil guys playing 15 mins a game.

I think it's pretty safe to say it's towards the latter end of that.

Yeah, I guess from my standpoint Matthews was a no-brainer.  Everything that has gone on around that no-brainer move has been counter intuitive to what they did last year.  This offseason seems to have less of a direction than last year, and almost feels like they are spinning their wheels, which isn't horrible because they are bad, but it also doesn't feel like they are trying to build toward a better future.

Creating room for Kris Russel.

Pleas NO although I suspect you're right. :-[
I didn't say it was your fault, I said I was blaming you.

Not after adding Polak...

LHD - Rielly, Gardiner, Marincin, Hunwick
RHD - Zaitsev, Polak, Carrick, Corrado

We have a full compliment and then some.

No, I agree completely. I'm not saying I give them any particular credit for Matthews(outside of doing their best to get the best lottery odds).

You're right though. It doesn't seem like they've really embraced any particular direction. The rumours of them being in on Russell, the not trading any big pieces, the head scratching draft strategy. Obviously this could all change in the weeks ahead but this seems like a policy of moderation at a time where the only thing that accomplishes is dragging out whatever the end goal is.
