Who was the gm that basically laughed at the pens for trading for Kessel when they could just sign somebody like Semin instead?

That was Hurricanes owner Peter Karmanos.

You'd think he'd know better after his team's experience with Semin. I mean, obviously his former GM didn't want to make that mistake a second time.

I don't think that quote was really meant to be flattering for Semin.

Oh, I'm sure. I'm basically just saying Karmanos is an idiot.

Thanks. It was a dumb comment then and looks far worse now.

Congratulations Phil!

Everything obviously worked out better for you in Pittsburgh.  Right role, right team, right timing!

http://www.tsn.ca/ballots-show-crosby-edged-kessel-in-tight-conn-smythe-vote-1.508739

QuoteAll 18 voters disclosed their ballots to TSN.ca on the condition of anonymity.

Crosby captured his first Conn Smythe with nine first-place votes. Kessel finished just behind Crosby with seven first-place votes. Kris Letang earned the other two first-place votes.

(Full disclosure: I was one of the 18 voters and my ballot was 1. Kessel, 2. Martin Jones, and 3. Crosby.)

Kessel finished with more second-place votes (eight) than Crosby (five). The NHL uses a 5-3-1 format to calculate the votes: five points for first, three points for second, one point for third.

The final point total based on that system and the information obtained by tsn.ca: Crosby 63, Kessel 60.

Crosby edged Phil out by basically a single vote.

Good.  Crosby still deserves it more.

Anyone else, I'd say that was kind of a low blow. As is, I hope Phil has himself a very good time with it.
I wish to hell I'd never said "Winning isn't everything it's the only thing". What I believe is, if you go out on a football field, or any endeavour in life, and you leave every fibre of what you have on the field, then you've won.

Yeah, doesn't seem to be a rub it in move. It's just Phil, a simple dude. He's happy he won, wants to share it with friends. And he still partially lives here. Happy for him.
