Lourdes Gurriel Jr. returned from the 10 IL while reliever Tim Mayza out indefinitely with torn UCL.  Will require Tommy John surgery.
Mayza was injured Friday in the Jays extra innings win over the Yankees.

Jays brass determined to solve rotation troubles and more:

On the pitching uncertainty:
Quote"It's not good enough to have depth," said Atkins. "We have to have guys who can contribute in significant ways. What I can tell you is our off-season will look more like the off-season after '15, after '16, where we were much more open to different structure and term. Whether or not that name is a year-in, year-out all-star name, is too hard to say yes or no to. But I can say we need to acquire pitching that we can count on."

On the overall team weaknesses:
Quote"We've got to do a better job of putting the ball in play. That is clear and we will do that," said Atkins. "We started to see that in the second half. Teoscar's approach was much better. The swing and miss is still there but the chase is less. Randal had a significant effort to do so, and we saw times of improvement where there was less swing and miss and more contact in zone, certainly a better performer in the second half, but the emphasis was there. I think the opportunity is there in the game of shifting. ...

As for Guerrero Jr., he needs improving & conditioning:

Quote"I think that's the key for me to have a great year next year," Guerrero said in September, according to TSN's Scott Mitchell. "I feel good the way I am right now, but I'm going to try to come back a lot better. Maybe try to be 15 or 20 pounds less for spring training and I will take it from there after that."

I bet his body fat index is between Obese and Morbidly Obese,  I am the same height and a little heavier and that where I rate.

I may have said this before but the Jays remind me of the Leafs 3-4 years ago, building offense whilst waiting on the D.  This is now in place..  For the Jays they need to add a hitting Outfielder, I think the rest of the offense is in place...now.....Shoemaker (stay healthy for a season),  Borucki, Thornton, Kay and perhaps we see Pearson at some point.  Still not sold on Waguespack.  Keep Giles around for sure.  Not there yet but in two years it should be.

I agree.  The offense needs to pick it up.  The Jays harboured among one of the worst OPS in the majors.  That definitely needs refinement.

I think next season we'll see a difference though by no means playoff bound.  Shapiro's & Atkins' jobs are on the line if this team doesn't perk it up a notch.  Essentially, it's up to these two to redefine this team going forward.
They've got some promising pieces, as well as the prospects currently in the system (Nate Pearson, for one) and with a trade here or there in hopefully acquiring a steady reliable arm or two, the Jays should have the support they will need.  That goes for all categories not just the rotation.

Devon Travis bids Toronto adieu.  Refused to accept being outright Ed to Triple A by the Jays, opted for free agency instead.

Reliever Ryan Tepera also opted for free agency.

I always wanted to call him Tempura for some reason.

The Jays are really struggling so far at the plate.  I don't like the approach a lot of guys are taking early on.  Lots of overly aggressive swings and the offense looks like it has gone back to the home run or bust approach at the plate.

Do we think it's a youth thing?
Also, was it mandatory that Grichak had to cut his hair and trim the facial hair to look exactly like Kevin Pilar? Does he think that was the secret??
