Well, there's a lot of politics around it, obviously, but the actual football has started and we have our biggest World Cup upset ever - Saudi Arabia defeat one of the tournament favourites Argentina, 2-1.

Thought Canada were massively unlucky to lose t Belgium last night. They were the better team but perhaps just a bit naive in comparison to Belgium.

Courteous is a superb penalty stopper, but he didn't gave to be - it was a dreadful penalty. He didn't look like he was going to score it either, looked tense.

Canada looked tense the whole game.  They had Belgium on their heels and every cross or shot attempt was 50 feet wide of the net.  Good passing in the midfield and then it all fell apart when it came time to finish.

Losing 2-1 would have been a better thing than losing 1-0 I fear because they still haven't scored a world cup goal.  A draw in that game would have been huge for their chances to advance but I'm concerned about the game against Croatia.

It's been a strange enough world cup so far, even setting aside the host nation...

Teams that have impressed: France, Spain and Brazil

Teams that have been poor: Germany, Argentina and Belgium

Teams I wasn't expecting to be up to much who have surprised: USA are much better than I ever thought, Saudi Arabia, Japan and Canada

England really sucked against the USA.  Have to play better next game for sure.  Canada has to beat Croatia on Sunday.

Great start for the Canadians against Croatia, goal after less than 2 minutes! Hope they can kick on.

I really hate the diving from soccer.  Canada has been wildly outmatched and there was been two absurd "injuries" in the final 15 minutes where Croatia acts like they died to kill time

Brutal game. Like Canada forgot how to play defense and are playing overly fancy. Feels like Phil Kessel era Leafs.

Exactly, these are baby step, build this team over the next 4 years and add some the new talent coming up, first Cup goal ever! Good effort, nothing to be ashamed of.

I think 4-1 was a bit harsh to be honest.

I thought Canada were a bit unlucky in both their games. They're a very athletic side, but they're a bit naive particularly when it comes to the attacking third. But I guess that's to be expected considering their experience at this kind of level. They've impressed me.
