TFC advanced in the CONCACAF Champions League preliminary round play with a 2-1 win over Real Esteli of Nicaragua (4-2 aggregate for TFC).  Game was played on Aug. 3/'11. in Nicaragua.  TFC now advances to the group stage, which includes Mexico's Pumas. Panama's Tauro, FC Dallas or El Salvador's Alianza.

It was TFC's first ever win on foreign turf in  CONCACAF action.

DC a man down almost the whole game and we still cant eek out a win.... some things never change

Not to thrilled with the result. Having a man advantage for 90 minutes (83 regulation + 7 stoppage) and only getting a draw is a disappointment. However, there were enough twists and turns to make this game very interesting to watch. JDG scores for TFC, his first goal for the club and even that came on a strange play which led to DC Manager Ben Olsen getting sent to the stands. I still think that the back four is the big problem with this team. Andy Iro just got whipped like a government mule on all 3 DC goals, especially the penalty.

Looks like the TFC will be without it's top netminder, Stefan Frei, for today's match-up at home versus Real Salt Lake.  Frei is currently tending to a minor knee injury.

TFC coach Aron Winter seems quite confident in going with back-up, Milos Kocic, against one of the league's premier offensive teams.  "Winter added: "We have all the confidence in Milos".

Kocic played in the 2 Champions League games. He was decent, but really mucked up late in the 1st leg and gave up a goal. Real Salt Lake have plenty of attacking options. Could be a long night at BMO.

Now the schedule gets really interesting. Off to Panama for a CCL match on Thursday, then back to Chicago for a MLS game Sunday. Wednesday sees them host Dallas in the CCL and then finish the string hosting San Jose in MLS on Saturday the 27th. Counting last night's game, that's 5 games in 15 days with the travel to Panama and Chicago.

That was posted by CONCACAF last night, but they still didn't want to abandon the game. They did get the full 90 in this morning. Dallas won 1-0 to go top of the Group. TFC will now face San Jose in MLS play Saturday. Their next Champions League game will be September 14th against Pumas UNAM in Mexico City.

TFC tied the San Jose Earthquakes, at home, Saturday,  in a MLS matchup.

You're right

It is sad how the interest seems to be waning for TFC - hopefully they can get back on track and get some of the supporters back.
There's valid reasons for the limited interest. Get out of your basement if you dare. The real world will bend you over.
