The Toronto Marlies continued their winning ways at Ricoh Coliseum, handling the Rockford IceHogs 5-2 on Saturday. The team has compiled an impressive 13-2-1 record on home ice.
Paul Ranger and Mike Zigomanis vaulted the Marlies to a 2-0 lead in the first period. For Zigomanis the goal ended a personal 11-game drought dating back to November 13. Kenny Ryan had the prettiest Marlies tally of the afternoon, dragging the puck into the middle of the ice before waiting for goalie Carter Hutton to commit, then finding the back of the net with the netminder down.
Ryan Hamilton continued his torrid scoring pace, driving the net for a tap-in to collect a shorthanded marker. For the Marlies captain, it was his 11th goal in his past twelve games.
Joe Colborne sealed the game with an empty-netter. Ben Scrivens stopped 31 shots for the victory in goal.
The game saw its share of fisticuffs. Mark Fraser tangled once each with Jimmy Hayes and Brendan Bollig, while Will Acton fought with Philippe Paradis.
