The Marlies had a close call at Ricoh Coliseum on Sunday, but hung on for a 5-4 win over the Lake Erie Monsters.

Jake Gardiner and Ryan Hamilton each had a pair of goals with Nazem Kadri also finding the net for the Marlies. The home team appeared to be comfortable with a 5-2 lead midway through the game, but the Monsters clawed their way back into the game, getting to within a goal with 1:44 left in regulation time.

Mark Owuya earned the win, making 25 saves. Spencer Abbott had a fine outing, registering three assists.

The Marlies return to action next Saturday when they host Rochester.
