Former NHL player Wade Belak was found dead in a downtown Toronto condominium on Thursday. He was 35 years old.

Belak played 15 NHL seasons over his career that included a seven-year stint with the Maple Leafs between 2001 and 2008. Altogether the Saskatoon native collected 1,263 penalty minutes in 549 games.

Belak’s death was confirmed by his most recent team, the Nashville Predators. “Our thoughts and prayers go out to his wife Jennifer and children Andie and Alex. We offer our full support to them at this very difficult time,” said the club in a public statement.

In an unfortunate and tragic NHL off-season, Belak becomes the third player to die suddenly in the past four months, after Derek Boogaard and Rick Rypien.
