The Maple Leafs gave up two late third-period goals in their exhibition game against Pittsburgh on Friday night resulting in a 5-4 defeat to the Penguins.  Toronto had taken a 4-3 lead on a goal by Tomas Kaberle, however goals by Pittsburgh’s Kristopher Letang and Matt Cooke secured the Penguins’ win.

Sidney Crosby had a goal and an assist including a highlight reel breakaway goal on Leafs netminder Vesa Toskala.

Dominic Moore and Alexei Ponikarovsky scored for Toronto while first round draft choice Luke Schenn also found the net. “I felt good and comfortable for most of the night,” said Schenn, who logged 18:23 of ice time and was often used in key situations throughout the game.  “Hopefully I just keep better and keep progressing.”

18,884 fans attended the game at Air Canada Centre.

The Leafs pre-season continues on Saturday night in Buffalo.
