The Maple Leafs announced Wednesday the signing of free agent defenceman Brett Lebda.

Lebda, 28, had one goal and 10 points for the Detroit Red Wings in 2009-10.

During the 2008 Stanley Cup playoffs, Lebda compiled six assists in 19 games as Detroit captured the Stanley Cup.

The move further adds to speculation that veteran blueliner Tomas Kaberle will be traded for a top-line forward.
