The agent for Leafs defenceman Jonas Frogren, Don Meehan, says the NHL’s interpretation of Frogren’s contract will not stop the defenceman from suiting up for the Leafs.

“He’s coming here anyway,” Meehan said flatly yesterday at Lakeshore Lions Arena

The league claims Frogren should be classified as a rookie requiring an entry level contract because he was drafted by Calgary ten years ago and never signed. Toronto management and Don Meehan interpreted the CBA differently and that as a 28-year-old next month, he is a free agent “under any circumstances”. The NHLPA may file a grievance and Frogren could play under the current contract until the grievance would be decided. The Leafs also have other options in the CBA for how they could contract his services to get around this problem.
