Noteworthy:
-The Leafs gave up one power-play goal in 3 chances, and have killed off just 10 of their past 22 penalties (45.5%). They have surrendered at leat one power-play goal in each of their past 8 games.
-Phil Kessel collected his first assist in 14 games.
-The officials invoked NHL Rule 78-6 when Sergei Gonchar’s apparent goal in the second period wasn’t awarded until confirmed by video replay. Play continued after the apparent goal, with the next stoppage occurring after Gonchar hauled down Alexei Ponikarovsky on a breakaway for a penalty shot. Upon confirmation of the goal by video replay, the time on the clock was reset to when Gonchar scored. But, a penalty shot could not be assessed because – in theory – two goals cannot be scored at the same time. Therefore, a two-minute minor instead of a penalty shot was assessed on Gonchar’s infraction.
