Doug Gilmour declared his ambition to coach a few months ago after coaching in the Spengler Cup. His position for two years as Leafs player development advisor officially ended on Tuesday when former Maple Leaf Joe Nieuwendyk was hired as general manager Cliff Fletcher’s special assistant. The Leafs are trying to find a spot for Doug but the coaching positions available are very limited.
