It was a rough loss for Toronto, in different terms. The Leafs lost the game 6-3. They didn’t come out to play their best against a team that had a depleted lineup.
Travis McDermott, Auston Matthews, and Andreas Johnsson all scored for the Leafs in the loss.
Freddie Andersen was yanked mid-game with Garett Sparks coming on in relief.
Asked about the loss, Coach Mike Babcock said “You’d like to win every game on the schedule. You and I both know, we’ve been around long enough, you don’t do that. You want your ups to be longer than your downs and sometimes when you don’t play as good it’s a good message to you, you’ve got to be a lot better. I think we’ve got to be a lot more competitive than we were the last two nights. It’s great that we had a good little run there, now we’ve got to regroup and have another one.”
The Leafs next action is Tuesday evening in Carolina.
