Auston Matthews scored three goals in Toronto’s dominant 5-1 preseason win over the Montreal Canadiens at Ricoh Coliseum on Monday.

Matthews continued to display his propensity for first period goals, finding the back of the net twice before the game was five minutes old. In his rookie season last year, Matthews led the NHL by scoring the first goal of the game on 14 occasions.

Patrick Marleau also scored for Toronto. William Nylander rounded out the Leafs’ goals with a laser snipe on the power play that beat Habs goalie Al Montoya.

Frederik Andersen picked up the win in goal.
