Alexei Ponikarovsky has been traded from the Maple Leafs to the Pittsburgh Penguins.

Ponikarovsky has 19 goals and 41 points in 61 games this season, and has played his entire NHL career so far with Toronto (477 games).

In exchange, the Leafs get prospect Luca Caputi, a Toronto native. Caputi, 21, was a fourth-round pick of Pittsburgh in 2007.

Toronto also gets defenceman Martin Skoula, who was included in the trade due to Pittsburgh’s salary cap considerations. Skoula, a 2001 Stanley Cup winner with Colorado, is 30 years old and has 8 points in 33 games this season.
