Noteworthy:
-Wayne Primeau, Phil Kessel and Jeff Finger each scored their first goal of the season. Primeau’s and Kessel’s goals were their first as Leafs.
-”It’s just an instinct thing,” said Kessel of his goal, which was a tap-in into an open net after Jason Blake had directed the puck towards the Detroit goal. “You never know if a guy’s behind you. If all of a sudden I don’t touch it, and then some guy hits it out of there (it wouldn’t be good). You’ve got to bury it.”
-Brad May, who signed with Detroit after playing with Toronto last season, returned to action after missing two games with an eye injury. May wore a visor for the first time in his 19 year career.
-2009 Hockey Hall of Fame inductees Brett Hull, Lou Lamoriello, Brian Leetch, Luc Robitaille and Steve Yzerman were all honoured in a pre-game ceremony.
