On September 4, 1972 Team Canada played the Soviet Union in Game 2 of the Summit Series. After being humiliated 7-3 in the opening game in Montreal two days earlier, the Canadians resolved to have a better performance heading into the matchup at Toronto’s Maple Leaf Gardens. Goaltender Tony Esposito and forwards Wayne Cashman and JP Parise each made their series debuts.
