Wednesday news: Antropov, Moore heading out of Toronto

Nik Antropov and Dominic Moore appear to be finished as Leafs. Both players were scratched from last night’s 3-2 overtime loss to New Jersey as Leafs GM Brian Burke continued negotations in attempting to move both players.

John Mitchell scored twice in last night’s game with the Devils’ Johnny Oduya scoring the overtime winner. Tomas Kaberle injured his hand in the second period and did not return to the game. He will be re-evaluated on Wednesday morning.

Monday news: Burke says “There’ll be less change than people think”

Leafs president and GM Brian Burke cautioned fans not to expect too much change to Toronto’s roster, as Wednesday’s trade deadline approaches. A report in the Toronto Star states that defencemen Tomas Kaberle and Ian White aren’t likely to be moved. Meanwhile, the Toronto Sun suggests that offers have been pouring in for the Leafs’ centremen: Nik Antropov, Matt Stajan, and Dominic Moore being among the notable names.

Around the NHL, Jarome Iginla became the Flames all-time scoring leader while Capitals’ superstar Alex Ovechkin shrugged off comments made by Don Cherry in Saturday’s “Coach’s Corner”.

The Marlies were edged 5-4 by the Grand Rapids Griffins in AHL action yesterday.

Pavel Kubina’s overtime goal, and second marker of the game, clinched a 4-3 victory for the Leafs over the Ottawa Senators at Scotiabank Place on Saturday. Marlies’ call-up Tim Stapleton scored his first NHL career goal, two days after scoring the shootout winner (an unofficial tally by the rule book) on Thursday. Curtis Joseph made 29 saves for his second victory of the season.

Around the NHL the Habs were winners over the Sharks, while Martin Brodeur became just the second goalie in NHL history to reach 100 career shutouts, blanking the Flyers 3-0.

At Copps Coliseum the visiting Marlies crushed the Hamilton Bulldogs 7-1, and return home to face the Grand Rapids Griffins in an afternoon game at Ricoh.
