Alexei Ponikarovsky scored twice in 28 seconds during a five-goal second period Leafs outburst as Toronto defeated the Atlanta Thrashers – the league’s best road team – by a score of 5-2 at ACC on Monday.
Goaltender Vesa Toskala made several clutch saves, foiling Thrashers forward Slava Kozlov on no fewer than three occasions.
Ex-Leafs Nik Antropov and Pavel Kubina made their debuts at ACC in Thrasher uniforms. Kubina registered one assist.
