Leafs goaltender Jonas Gustavsson spent Tuesday night in a Montreal hospital for observation, and will be examined in Toronto today by a cardiologist. “The Monster” left Tuesday’s game with an elevated heart rate after playing the entire first period. Gustavsson and backup goalie Joey MacDonald shared the shutout in a 3-0 Leafs win.
EDIT 1:45pm, Leafs GM Brian Burke states that Gustavsson’s condition did NOT require an overnight stay in hospital, as first reported. Gustavsson will be examined further by cardiac specialists today. The team expects to have an update on Thursday.
At Ricoh Coliseum the Marlies were shutout 3-0 by Abbotsford in AHL action.
