On a night when the Hockey Hall of Fame honoured 2009 inductees – Lou Lamoriello, Brett Hull, Steve Yzerman, Luc Robitaille and short-term Toronto Maple Leaf Brian Leetch – the Buds, perhaps inspired by the ghosts of seasons past such ceremonies stir up, trounced Detroit 5-1.
In what was an all round effort, the goal scoring was evenly distributed between Wayne Primeau, Jeff Finger, John Mitchell, Alexei Ponikarovsky and Phil Kessel, who potted his first goal as a Leaf.
