Steve Buffery of the Toronto Sun reports that the proposed deal between the Bruins and Leafs involving Phil Kessel and Tomas Kaberle is no longer on the table. The trade, which was proposed just prior to last week’s draft, fell apart because of miscommunication over whether Toronto’s first-round pick would have been included in the transaction.
Also, Swedish goalie Jonas “The Monster” Gustavsson hopes to make a decision on his playing future within the next couple of days. Toronto is one of four cities bidding for the netminder’s services.
Howard Berger of the FAN 590 takes a Leaf-centred tongue-in-cheek look into the negotiations between Rick Nash and the Columbus Blue Jackets that resulted in his $62.4 million, eight-year contract extension.
