Yzerman seemed to really play hardball here in these negotiations. That could bite him in the butt if Stamkos walks when he gets the chance.

Seems like a pretty good deal for Tampa.I can hardly wait for the uproar that will happen here in five years.

I bet he wanted Stamkos even longer, to lock up 1 or 2 of those UFA years

Iginla, OV, St Louis etc.
I think there is a good chance he'll be a leaf after that deal is done. I know a lot of people say that Toronto players like to come home, but with him, I actually think it's true.

From the pre-draft impressions I got, I think Tavares is a more likely candidate to "come home" as a UFA and wants to play for his favorite team...

From the pre-draft impressions I got, I think Tavares is a more likely candidate to "come home" as a UFA and wants to play for his favorite team...I get that, but only because I think the Islanders are a bad organization under their current owner and management. I did however, think that Stamkos was looking a bit disappointed when he was drafted, hoping that somebody made a move to get him. I think he is a real professional though and actually likes Tampa Bay more now than he did at the draft. But if he has the opportunity to come to Toronto as a UFA, I think that will be hard for him not to explore and I do think he will come.
I can't see Stamkos being disappointed that he was drafted by Tampa when they ran that "Seen Stamkos?" PR campaignfor months before the draft. That would have been a PR disaster for TB had they traded the pick/Stamkos.
