Team Canada needed OT in eliminating Team Russia 5-4 on Ryan O'Reilly's OT PP goal out in front of the Russian net on a passout from Connor McDavid.

McDavid had three assists in the game while Canada got goals from Ryan Nugent-Hopkins, Colton Parayko, Kyle Turris, and Pierre-Luc DuBois.

Toronto Maple Leafs defenceman Nikita Zaltsev had three assists for his squad.

The game played at the Royal Arena here in Copenhagen featured exciting offence with Canada in the lead and Russia tying it up.  The Canadians held a lead three tines in the game, only to have thw Russians cone back to tie ip the score each time.

It took OT to finally decide the winner.  Make that a power-play advantage too.

Team Canada will face Team Switzerland for the Semi-final on Saturday.

Othee Quarter-final results for May 17:

Team USA edged Team Czech Republic 3-2 in a close contest and booked it's way to a Semi-final date against Team Sweden.

Recap:

Team Sweden subdued Team Latvia 3-2 and will play Team USA in the Semi-final.  The Latvians played hard to the end and impressed their opponents. Perhaps Sweden's Flip Forsberg said it best:

Quote
"They were really tough against Canada, really tough against the US, obviously Finland was a little disappointment for them but every other game was close, their goalie's been playing great so it was as hard as we thought."

Team Switzerland stunned Team Finland 3-2 and a trip to the Semi-final against Team Canada.
Swiss goaltender Leonardo Genoni faced 34 shots but backboned his team to victory in helping his squad keep their lead.  The Swiss scored three goals in a span of four minutes in the second period and kept it that way until game's end.

The loss was Finland's first in since 1972 against Switzerland.  The highly-favoured Finns were simply stymied in attempting a comback, in large part thanks to Genoni even though Finland had more PP advantages.

Quote
"We started playing our game in the second period," said defenceman Roman Josi. "We scored a couple of quick goals and that put us in the right mindset. We are going to enjoy the win tonight and go back to Copenhagen and prepare for our game. It will be another big challenge for us going against the Canadians."

Unreal pass by McDavid in OT for the winner.
Upon the wicked He will rain Jerseys; blue and white and burning waffles will be the portion of their cup.

Semifinal results for May 19

Team Switzerland edged Team Canada 3-2 and a trip to the Gold medal game against Sweden.  The Swiss goaltender Leonardo Genoni was phenomenal as the Canadians peppered the Swiss net with 45 SOG, while Switzerland managed a mere 17.

Bo Horvat and Colton Parayko were the scorers foe Canada, but as much as the Canadians tried valiantly to comeback on the scoreboard, they fell short of the mark.  For that, the Swiss can thank Genoni.

Canada goes on to playTeam USA in the Bronze medal match Sunday.

Bronze Medal game results:

Team USA scored a pair of PP goals including two empty-betters to prevail 4-1 over Team Canada at the Royal Arena in Copenhagen and win the Bronze medal.

Both team's played their fourth game in three days and appeared rather listless. Still, the Americans took quick advantage of their chances and made the most of them.

Canada's lone goal came from Marc Eduardo-Vlasic.  Canadian goaltender and Toronto Maple Leaf Curtis McElhinney faced 35 shots,  but was instrumental at staving off the US square from putting more goals on the scoreboard.

The game was tied going into the second period when the US scored twice to take a firm grip on the lead.

Team USA goalkeeper Keith Kincaid faced 25 SOG.

Quote
"When you look at the tournament overall and you can say you beat Canada twice and came home with a bronze medal, you probably think you’d do a little bit better than that," said the USA's Patrick Kane.
