I think it's safe to say that Matt Dalton is the best goalie South Korea has ever produced.

Agree.

He is one of the six Canadians playing for the Korean team ( not including the squad's Canadian coach Jim Paek).

Quarter-final results for Tuesday Feb. 20:

Team Czech Republic defeated Team USA 3-2 in the shootout.  The Americans are now effectively eliminated from medal contention.

Just as they had done against Canada in a Preliminary game, the Czechs, having tied the game in the second period, and after no OT winner, used  the shootout to stake their victory.

Czech goalkeeper Pavel Francouz was key in the shootout win, styming one American forward after another, just as he had done against Canada.

Shootout winning goal was scored by the Czech's Petr Koukal.

It's safe to say that Team Czech Republic used much of the same strategy in this game that they had against Team Canada.  Physical play dominated and it showed particularly on a tired & fatigued US squad, that had just finished playing a Qualification game the night before against Team Slovakia.

Next up, Team Czech Republic moves on to the Semi-Finals against either of Team Norway or Team OAR (Russia), depending on the outcome of that upcoming Semi-Final.

My olympic hockey journey in three phases:

1: Ugh, this hockey is terrible

2: Hey, this team is kind of fun. Scrivens and Raymond were likeable as Leafs. Gilbert Brule, remember when he was a high draft pick? Stumpy Thomas' son? Alright. Go you group of scrappy underdogs!

3: Jeez, this hockey is really terrible. I'm gonna watch an episode of The Chi.

Canada vs. Germany in the Semi-Finals. Feel the excitement!

Quarter-final results for Wednesday Feb. 21:

Team Canada edged out Team Finland 1-0 and advance to the Semi-Final against Team Germany.

While not a dramatic win, Canada got it's goal in the third period by Maxim Noreau, and that's all the scoring it would need to beat the Finns.

Canada's goaltender Ben Scrivens exited the game with what was described as an "upper body injury" after a collision occurred around the net.  Kevin Poulin, Scrivens' replacement, confined to provide solid netminding relief.  In fact, for the record, Poulin has racked 260 minutes in shutout goaltending since his Spengler Cup appearance.

Canada's shutout streak has the distinction of being the fourth longest in the annals of Canadian Olympic history.

Elsewhere, Team Germany needed OT to dispose of Team Sweden 4-3 and advance to rhe Semi-final game against Canada.  It was a stunning win and one wh8ch the Swediiah media and fans did not take kindly to.
For Germany, not only did they beat Sweden for the first time ever but it's thw German squad's first medal contenrion in nearly four decades.  That alone is reason for celebration for German hockey.

Team OAR (Olympic Athletes of Russia) easily defeated Team Norway 6-1.  The OAR will now face Team Czech Republic in the Semi-finals.
