Game Notes

CGY
•Calgary is coming off an ignonimous defeat to the lowly Flyers in Brian Elliott's return to Calgary, snapping a 10-game losing streak and ruining Mark Giordano's 700th career game
•Mike Smith, expected starter, gave up 3 Flyer goals in 1:11
•As is often the case, the coach is going to get the credit for his goaltender's success as well as his struggles; the Flames have lost 5 of their last 7 games, with their only reprieves coming against the Avalanche and the Coyotes, and fans are starting to grab their pitchforks for Gulutzan's job
•Additional subtext to this game: this will be a faceoff for the best head coach hair in hockey between Gulutzan's slick undercut and Babcock's classic pro flo

TOR
•Bozak might be back in action following a Friday-night bout of food poisoning that kept him out of Saturday's lineup; rumour* has it that Josh Leivo and Connor Carrick wanted to introduce a new recipe to him and Polak
•Nylander is tabbed to play centre if Bozak can't go; Babcock wants Willy to be better 'down low' and that made me giggle
•This is one of 3 home games the Leafs will play to close out 2017, the worst year ever
•It's been 6 games since Mitch Marner has recorded a point; last game against Calgary he recorded 5 shots and did just about everything other than hit the scoresheet

•Mikael Backlund - Ill - Game time decision

•Tyler Bozak - Food Poisoning - Game time decision
•Nathan Horton - Back - Out indefinitely
•Joffrey Lupul - Actually Injured - Out indefinitely

How much longer does Komarov get a free ride?

He's never been an offensive dynamo, but he has been awful this year.

He has zero primary assists this season. He is not good down low, up high or anywhere in between.

Jagr is out day-to-day now. Backlund should be good to go.

Gaudreau - Monahan - Ferland
Tkachuk - Backlund - Frolik
Bennett - Jankowski - Hathaway
Lazar - Stajan - Brouwer

I guess what Leivo, Carrick and Soshnikov misunderstood about Babcock saying "Play well to earn your spot" was that Babcock was going to take performance for games 5 years ago into account in that playing well thing.

I agree... i try not to get into the flavor of the week whipping boys...but he has 3 goals this year.  2 into empty nets and one was a he put into an open net when literally every one stopped playing because everyone thought Nylander scored on the initial shot.  he is still useful...but hes gotta move down in the lineup.  how Kadri has 13 goals is beyond me
