I didn't realize that Lee Stempniak was still playing.

I still have nightmares of that trade

Anyway, Go Leafss Go!!!
My Stemniak memories are mashed up with Yannic Pearrault for some reason. Coalivaco (the glass man) and STEEN!

JVR my first choice but I would go with Kapanen second, and third to Leivo.

For a longer-term injury, sure. But, to bother with that kind of roster shuffling for what might have been one game? Play the guy who is already on the NHL roster.

A storyline for tonight that I forgot to mention is this is Andersen's night to show the team that drafted him what they missed out on.

Andersen's career numbers vs the Carolina Hurricanes

I don't know why the goals against numbers don't add up.

Because of time on ice.  Goals would get prorated for a full game.

I believe herm was referring to the fact that the EV, PP, and SH goal totals didn't add up to the 12 GA that the table showed. The answer to that problem is because one of the goals against was on a penalty shot.

Shouldn't penalty shot goals count as even strength goals?

I believe officially they are, hockey-reference just didn't pick it up like that.

Even if the team with the Penalty shot is already up/down a man.  ie, Hyman gets a SH breakaway, gets hauled down leading to penalty shot, scores on Penalty shot... isn't it a shorthanded goal?

I mean, the actual goal is scored with one player on the ice for either team.

Nah, Coco's right. It'll be classified as whatever the game state was when the whistle was blown. Checked a couple of short-handed penalty shot goals to confirm.

If you count the goalie as a player, yes indeed.

Are goals scored with the goalie pulled (ie 6-on-5) considered even strength goals?  I know they aren't in advanced stats, but what does the NHL put them under?

I'm not saying what is but what should be. I'm getting very philosophical.

Doesn't the other team's goalie stand on the other side of the ice and watch? I'm just kidding, that other goalie can't do anything. It should be even strength. If the goalie is pulled so it's a '6 on 5' that's still even strength, because really it's 6 on 6.
