The LAAngels and the Mike Trout show come to town in a three-game series against the Blue Jays.

The Angels (49-54) are currently 19 GBL Houston Astros in the A.L. West, and 5.5 GB for the WC spot.

The Blue Jays (48-54) are currently 7.5 GBL Boston Red Sox in the A.L. East, and 6.0 GB for the WC spot.

The Los Angeles Angels gave up twenty-three runs getting swept against the Cleveland Indians in their most recent three-game series.

The Toronto Blue Jays swept the Oakland A's here in Toronto in their most recent four-game series, in which the Jays had two walk-off homeruns for the first time in franchise history in their 8-4 win on Thursday.  Despite the fact that the Athletics are a lowly team, and it would be easy to say that the victories weren't difficult to come by, the Blue Jays made short work of Oakland by regaining the form so often seen missing this year -- a battery of  offence coupled with solid starting pitching.

While the Angels have slogged through the season, they own one of the game's best in Mike Trout who sports a 1.145 OPS.  Trout is a stalwart both offensively and defensively, and has five home runs and fourteen RBIs in nineteen games against the Jays at the Rogers Centre.

Now that the Blue Jays are on a roll so far in their homestead, the faithful hope they'll continue to dazzle and improve upon their w/l record, preferably in the w column.

GO JAYS GO!

Angels 7   Blue Jays 2

Not only did the Blue Jays lose the game, they lost Troy Tulowitzki to a sprained ankle.  The severity of the injury won't be known until further notice.  A bad break for Tulo.  Certainly not the first time that he's been out of the Jays lineup this season, though it is hoped that this injury is nothing too severe.  Judging from Tulowitzki's expression upon injuring himself, it doesn't bode too well.

Jays starter J.A. Happ alloeed three runs and had some early inning troubled.  He settled down afterwards but by then the Angels had already established a lead.  The Jays bullpen fared worse in allowing the rest of the Angels runs.

As for lack of offence, it was palpable what with Angels starter rookie Parkrr Bridwell, who's been well, a tour de force in the Angels rotation.  The Jays were swiinging air.
Justin Smoak was the only Jay to smash a solo shot, #29 on the year.

Rob Refsnyder got pulled from the Bisons game right after the Tulo injury occurred. Not a coincidence, expect Refsnyder up with the Jays tomorrow.  ;)

Angels 10  Blue Jays 11

A day after losing the game to the Angels in a somewhat Anaheim comeback in the ninth, (one of those rare moments this season that Jays closer Osuna blows the lead), it was the Blue Jays turn to stage a comeback of their own.

Down 10-4, the Jays began, starting with Kevin Pillar's two-run blast in the bottom of the ninth inning.  Then, Refsnyder doubled, followed by singles by Carrera & Martin.  Refsnyder scored while the chopper by Carrera was mishandled.  Score now 10-7 Anaheim.  But the Jays were closing in.  A walk to Kendrys Morales effectively loaded the bases.  Enter Steve Pearce...

...up, up, and away!  Pearce's grand slam won it for Toronto.  It was Pearce's second walk-off grand slam in a week.  That tied him with two other Major Leaguers who completed that feat in MLB history. The Blue Jays thus set a franchise record for most runs scored in a comeback (in the bottom of the ninth).

It was Canada Baseball Day at the Rogers Centre and what better way to celebrate than that?!   Wow, what a way to a finish!!

Man these late-inning heroics are pretty exciting; it's a shame the team is playing so lousy overall.

Another packed, rowdy house too.
