Nice deal for the Habs. Schlemko is a reasonable upgrade on Emelin, and at $2M less on the cap. Doesn't address their larger issues, but still a nice pickup.

Why for so little however.  Schlemko seems like a guy worth more than a 5th round pick two years from now

He's generally had good underlying numbers... but he's 30 years old, he's always been a bottom pairing defenceman, and he has 3 years left at a cap hit of $2.1mil. He's also not very big and doesn't score much. He's also a left handed shot so no bonus value there.

A 5th rounder TWO years from now does seem a little low, but it's not that big of a surprise. He was claimed off waivers twice in 2015 when he was younger, cheaper, and maybe even arguably better.
