That's pretty good for both teams.

Kind of bugs me that the Habs just got better.

Their prospect pipeline is now pretty much toast, but with Price and Weber on the hook in a soft Atlantic, that is pretty much the way it has to be for them.

Good on Yzerman for snagging Sergachev instead of Galchenyuk.

Are there rules to the conditions? Like a list of possible conditions to choose from? Or can GMs get creative with these?

They can get creative, but I'm sure there are some rules that have to be followed.  Not sure where they are listed though.

I understand why both teams would make this trade but I don't love it for either team. I get why after a year of getting beat up in the press why Montreal would make a move like this for a talented local guy but if the goal was to get a cup out of the Weber-Price years, which is a long shot anyway, then I really think Sergachev hitting his potential helps them more than Drouin.

For Tampa, obviously they had to move out some salary and I suppose that they did about as well as they could but I really think Drouin can be a 60-70 point scorer and ultimately they got a prospect for him.  A good prospect, sure, but that's a lot of value to expect out of him.

Is Sergachev really that great? Kind of an unknown at this point, no?

I really like this deal for Montreal. I think that Sergachev will probably need to become a top-3 defenceman for him to reach Drouin's level, which is possible but not a sure thing by any means. I think he's been a little overrated as a prospect since being drafted.

Obviously, Tampa gets the added benefit of having him on his ELC for 3 seasons instead of Drouin who will be coming off of his and onto a much larger contract. They also gain an extra protection slot in the expansion draft, which I suppose has some value since it appeared as though they would have lost a good forward prior to the trade (although losing Killorn's contract may have been a good thing). If they get that 2nd that also helps even the gap.

But still at the end of the day I think Montreal just gets the best player, both now and in the future.

Really how great? He's a very good prospect, probably at the upper end of prospects who might get moved. But he is, like all prospects, ultimately largely unknown.

The Habs are apparently still actively shopping Galchenyuk, so there's still a chance they make a bonehead move this offseason.

I like this deal because it's a new precedent that's not Larsson-Hall.

Except our triplets all put up more points in their first full season than Drouin has. It's gonna get ugly with those contracts
