I'm thinking about buying a defibrillator.

Matthews cementing his grip on the Calder lately I'd say

Yeah, I'd say it's a lock.

I'd also think Babcock should be on the short list for the Jack Adams..

He won't get it because that's not how the award works but someone I'd have on that shortlist would be Quenneville.

Ok, I'll bite... why wouldn't Babcock get serious consideration?

Ah, I read it wrong, as if you meant large scale improvement wasn't the overriding consideration in the award (which it generally does, albeit often unfairly weighted). Agreed, Quenneville won't get it because he'll never be able to show his value with such a strong roster. The voters always look for the cinderella story. (hartley, Roy, etc)

They initially called the Nylander goal unassisted but they've now given assists to Matthews and Polak. With that assist and the two goals Matthews has tied Peter Ihnacak for the Leafs rookie point record.

Also, Matthews is now ahead of Laine both in total goals and goals per game.

Yeah, but with a (lame secondary) assist on a last minute EN goal tonight Laine's still up in P/GP with 0.89 to Matthews' 0.86.

When Matthews made it 5-3 I thought it was lock of the century, just run out the clock with no issues, this team is killing me...

Hockey-Reference adjusted goals per game puts Matthews and Laine tied for 8th in all-time rookie goals per game.

The only teenaged rookies ahead of them are Lindros and Gretzky.

Yeah, in which case I agree that Babcock will be in the mix. Although so will Boudreau, Tortorella, Gulutzan and McClellan.

Matthews is also on an 8 game point streak - his second such streak of the year.

Marner on Matthews:

"He's constantly getting open and putting himself in areas where he can score," Marner said of Matthews. "When he gets in those areas, he's pretty deadly.

"I think he's one of the top goal scorers already."
