Anaheim Scouting Leafs games: Lindholm? Fowler?
« on: October 25, 2016, 10:27:29 AM »
Lance Hornby noted Ducks' scouting presence on the Leafs' most recent western road trip. http://www.torontosun.com/2016/10/23/maple-leafs-andersen-must-improve

Ducks in cap trouble with Lindholm still waiting for a contract while the team is only about 500k under the cap at the moment.

The 'will' here, btw should say 'willing'

Fair warning, Jimmy Murphy is kinda a joke when it comes to rumour-mongering.

Just some examples (via @twolinepass):

Without saying anything about the veracity of the report, I think we need to stop getting excited about a team effectively saying they'd be willing to swap what they have for something exactly the same.

Like, I'd be willing to trade Matthews for an equal or greater young talent too. Stop the presses.

Murray and his top-pair defenceman have narrowed the gap in negotiations to approximately $250,000 per season on a six-year deal

I don't see where his cap space will be coming from, but I think Nik's quarters for a dollar idea in the Michalek/Smith thread has legs.

That would be nice, but, I imagine, it's more likely to be 3 nickles (at least one of which turns out to be wooden) for a dime.

Maybe Murray is going to put some drugs in Bieksa's bag before the next road trip?

Depres' concussion putting him into LTIR temporarily helps Murray's cause, but it's pretty much a given that somebody will be moved out.

I don't even see that happening. If they move somebody like Fowler or Vatanen they can probably find a team willing to pay a fair price for those defencemen. And if they move somebody like Bieksa or Stoner then Anaheim will be the one liking adding picks or prospects to make those players attractive.

If Anaheim really has any interest in trading Lindholm ( which seems impossible to me ) they have to get something incredibly valuable back that doesn't include salary. Would you offer an unprotected first to get him? I think I would.

It's an interesting question. I think you'd have to look at it in the context Burke often said he talked about the Kessel trade in, where the possibility of the surrendered picks being as high as #1 was taken into consideration.

So I'd need to know a little more about Patrick and especially Liljegren. If his upside wasn't all that much higher than Lindholm's, sure I'd offer the unprotected 1st(and more). If, however, there was a real possibility that he could be that legit Norris-contender type...I'd have to think pretty hard on it.

With this young team, and the terrible history of trading 1st picks ? top 10 protected or Hell no.

I've read a couple reports that have Patrick pegged as more of a high-end 2nd line center, but, Liljegren seems to be generally viewed as a top-pairing, potential #1 guy. I get the feeling that Patrick is being ranked higher right now mostly due to the fact that he's been expected to be the top guy in this draft since people started put lists together for it a year or so ago.

That's what always confused me about the rankings.  Here we have a center, he probably wouldn't have gone in the top 10 of this years draft.  He's projected to be more of a #2.  He's going to get ranked 1st.  Then we have this d-man, he is the best d-man in this draft and it isn't even close.  He is projected to be a stud #1 d-man.  Lets rank him 2nd.

Yeah, I guess what I mean is more that I'd need to have more information personally about these guys. So, like, are we talking about Liljegren as a #1 in the sense of a Karlsson? Pietrangelo? Josi?
