That's anger/spite talking. When cooler heads prevail, he'll prefer to get something in return.

Lou: Alright Dave, what do we need to do to get this done?

Poile: tamperersayswhat?

Lou: ...

Poile: ...

AdamVingan: Poile: "The difference here is that Ryan Suter had a clear agenda of what he was doing . ... There's no financial benefit here (for Vesey)."

While he's right that there's no financial benefit to Vesey here, he gets to choose his team, and that's a pretty significant thing to gain out of this.

Pfft. Like the league would risk punishing Lou for anything.

I fully expect if he signs with the Leafs that they'll lose a pick somehow.  League loves nothing more than to take a Leafs pick away.

If there is that much bitterness coming from the Nashville camp, than they must truly believe he's going to be a pretty good NHL player. That bodes really well for us Leaf fans if the rumours are right about him likely to sign with T.O. this summer. Is this going to be like the biggest off season in Maple Leaf history or are we just getting our hopes up for that to happen?

He must be pretty good:

Didn't feel like getting crushed by LA in the first round, those Harvard guys are wicked smart.

If only Poile offered to be the little spoon in bed.  Then Vesey would have signed with him for sure.  This is seriously pure comedy.

David Poile: "I clearly believe that Jimmy has received bad advice and bad counsel."

Exercising his collectively bargained right to hit free agency at the age of 23 is "bad advice"?

Really.  I like Poile but that's arrant nonsense.  If he wants to play in the same system as his g/d father & brother, then to hell with the naysayers.

Even ignoring all the family stuff, a prospect has to sacrifice 4 years of potential NHL paycheques in order to finish their college degree. Anyone who does that would be silly to at least not strongly consider the option of waiting until August 15th and becoming a free agent. Poile's acting like Vesey is committing some sort of faux-pas, when it's really just common sense.

And Vesey's degree will be good insurance in case he doesn't make it in hockey.  It's not like he loyally hung in for 4 years at Quinnipiac.  A skin from Harvard is a nice thing to lead off your CV with.
