It sure is going to be interesting to watch and see if this management structure can really exist over the next few years.

This isn't exactly breaking news, but according to Mirtle the Leafs camp is divided between Marner and Hanifin, you can obviously guess who wants who:

It's not breaking news as you say but knowing that they've narrowed it down to those two, that the Leafs will wind up with one of them, that's good by me. Land a good high-upside guy at #24 to boot and that's about as well as you could have hoped for this draft to turn out, even if it looks a little like the rest of the league is fairly unexcited about trading for what the Leafs have to offer.

I'm kind of really hoping Arizona stays at 3 and takes Strome just so we can see how Shanny breaks the supposed tie.

I mean, not to put too fine a point on it but wasn't the idea that Hunter was running the draft? Isn't that what Babcock said?

Cage match? Cage match.

To be honest though, until I see a reason/evidence otherwise, I'm not too concerned.  They all knew what they were getting into and the nature of a management team where there will be differences of opinions.  I doubt this is radically different from the debates other teams are having where 1 guy eventually has to make the call.

I'll be keeping my eyes peeled all day for any news on trades for our roster players...but does Horton have any value to the cap strapped teams that might result in us getting back some sort of asset who could be traded at a later date?

If a team is looking to offload an asset like that for cap reasons, why would they be inclined to take Horton back? Why not dump him to a team struggling with the floor for a 7th?

Once they appoint a GM-proper the decision chain should be a bit more clear cut. I don't think this is much different from other management teams, other than their internal team discussions not being publicized.

At this point, there are roles defined. Hunter is in charge of the Draft. Dubas will field the deals. Babcock is the coach. If Babcock truly believes what he said about not being the GM and about Hunter being one of the best hockey minds and talent evaluators, he should have no problem with Hunter's final choice. I think we'd all be happy with any of the three, really.

If we can swing trades for all three picks though...

Agreed. Having the 3rd, 4th, AND 5th picks is really the only way to solve this conundrum.  8)

You, and Potvin unsurprisingly, are defensively inferring more sarcasm than there is there. It's going to be interesting. It's a departure from the norm and, no, I don't think someone given the GM title is going to supplant Shanahan as the guy who's going to "break the tie".

Interesting is a value-judgment free word.

That has been said by virtually everyone involved, yeah. I do think though that a pick as important as this one will be determined by more than one person. Everyone will have their say, and if there's no consensus then it'll be up to Shanny. After this pick I think Hunter and the scouts will completely run the show.

I don't envy these guys though.  I'm having trouble just deciding myself...with no consequences.

Trade them all for #1 and we're set.

So you don't think the Leafs are going to make any moves before the draft?
