2015 Summer Housekeeping Thread
« on: June 18, 2015, 12:33:36 PM »
Thought we could use a thread to discuss the smaller but still newsworthy things the Leafs will be doing this summer.

So, to start . . .

Real_ESPNLeBrun: The @MapleLeafs yesterday filed for Club-elected salary arbitration on Jonathan Bernier. Although contract talks continue between both sides

Wasn't Bernier and the draft rights to his infant son traded to the Oilers yesterday for the 16th pick in 2015?

The Zaitsev negotiations are holding everything else up.

Baby Berniers rights traded from Edmonton to the Lost Vegas Wages in 2025 to be the goalie of the future Stanley Cup champions.  Bet on it!

Real_ESPNLeBrun: Leafs hoping to come to terms with Zach Hyman soon. Also not that far off on re-signing Tim Erixon and Petter Grandberg.

So how good is Erixon?  I didn't really think he was a player to bring back.  Did I miss a great attribute that he has?  PK, shoot out, etc?

He has a pulse, and can play in the NHL.

Basically. He's young, cheap and may still have upside. He is a former 1st round pick, so, there is some hope that he's just a late bloomer.

And has some experience as well, for if we dump Phaneuf and Polak we will need someone with a thread of prior NHL time back there with the rookies

Real_ESPNLeBrun: Leafs getting close on RFA deal with Panik

I'm starting to feel like this will be the big news of the day, other than drafted players.  So much posturing in the press, it's hard to believe anyone will give in and make a deal for any of the Leafs' core players.

Jeebus no. Mac is speculating pretty hard there, I think the Leafs have been clear about their approach, just because it doesn't happen instantly shouldn't necessitate a re-jigging of the Burkean re-tool.
