Hey everyone, figured since I've started spewing my opinions around the forum, I'd give a brief intro. I've been reading here for several years but the Carlyle firing (which I've been hoping for) finally convinced me to start posting.

I grew up near New York City so as you might expect, my parents (and uncles, grandparents, etc) were all Ranger fans. Well, until the Islanders came around, at that point my Mom and sister switched allegiance which made for some really fun times (Ranger-Islander games in the late 70s/early 80s were the most intense hockey I've ever seen). I have no idea how I wound up a Leaf fan. Perhaps it was my first act of youthful rebellion? In any case, since I was born in 1962 the Leafs have technically won a Cup during my lifetime, but I don't remember it.

Among my group of friends, we had Ranger, Islander, Bruin, Flyer, Penguin and Red Wing fans. They've all seen their teams win at least one Cup. I'm still waiting.

I still live in NY state and still watch the Leafs. It's like a sickness that I can't shake. I'm hoping for a total tear-down and rebuild but I don't think the organization has the stomach for that. I think it's more likely that several pieces of "the core" are moved and one or two are kept...probably Kessel but who knows. The fact that they decided to fire Carlyle despite the fact the team was still in a playoff position gives me hope that maybe someone in the organization "gets it".

I don't know what else to say, so I'll leave it at that!

Welcome Chris! It's a hard time being a Leaf fan right now and my whole family (except myself and my baby brother) are all Habs fans! Not fun.

Hey Chris, welcome to the site!

I've grew up in Europe, so I know what it's like to support the Leafs from afar, good for you for sticking with them through thick and thin.

Your posts so far have been really good, you've definitely improved the discussion and I hope you stick around.

Cheers.

Welcome to the site, Chris!

I'm a Leafs fan through and through (been following this team since I was 10), but I've also been an Islanders fan since I first discovered Mike Bossy & those wonderful Islander Cup-winning teams of the '80's.  Still follow the Isles from time to time.

So, welcome aboard!  :)

I'm pretty sure the Leafs can still max out the salary cap and be Buffalo bad for the full season.  They have it in them.

Forgot about this thread! Yes, this is the most hopeful I've been about the Leafs future in a long time. If this rebuild doesn't work out, though, I may just give up on them. As it is, I've lost much of the interest I had in hockey from when I was younger. Haven't even watched any of the playoffs so far.

I'm more than willing for the Leafs to be "Buffalo bad" next year, whether they're at the salary cap or not. However, I'd much prefer for them to shed some of their high priced "talent" in exchange for some additional high draft picks before the season begins.
