Now we need to sign Brad May to bring some sand paper to this team.

I've been way beyond the anger for a while now.  It's acceptance now, and disinterest.  I barely watch any of the games any more. I can't imagine being a kid and trying to follow this team and get excited about them.  There's really no entertainment or enjoyment watching the team, I have better things to do.

So why did we give up D'Amigo for him?

So why did we give up D'Amigo for him?

It's the little moves that bother me to be honest.

Taking on cap hit to trade Gunnarsson to St. Louis for Polak.  Gunnarsson is a better defenseman than Roman Polak.  Admittedly there was some risk with his hip injury on whether he could return to form, but he's been exceptionally good for them so far.  We got an inferior defenseman (not that I hate Polak as he brings something different to the lineup) and had to give up more to get him.  We also gave up a 4th round pick.

Trading Matt Frattin for Jerry D'Amigo we also gave up a 7th round pick.  Why?

Here are some of our 7th round draft picks of late:
- Andreas Johnson 25 goals in the last two years in SHL hockey
- Viktor Loov, promising defense prospect
- Garrett Sparks, may never play in the NHL but has very good AHL/ECHL numbers
- Andrew MacWilliam, probably not an NHLer, but a 7th/AHL guy
- Carl Gunnarsson
- Even a guy like Leo Komarov was drafted 180th in the 6th round so pretty darn close to that area.

There are still a lot of flame out guys in that territory that don't get drafted, but Frattin wasn't adding anything special to the lineup.  He was a guy who had two weeks of good play amid a career of being a borderline NHLer.  He already had character issues almost end his career once and managed to put it together for a year and a half to be a borderline NHL player.  He had one brief hot streak and his value should have been negligent.  Guys like Frattin are waiver wire pickups.  No, the Leafs didn't give up a lot for him but every little bit does add up over time.

Just for the sake of accuracy, the 7th round pick in the Frattin trade is conditional - though, not knowing the conditions doesn't really make it clear as to whether or not the Leafs will end up without that pick. If it's a games played or performance based condition, it's unlikely it gets met.

That is true, and the fact that I don't know what the conditions are is the only reason I didn't bring it up.  It honestly could have been something as small as "D'Amigo doesn't make camp" or "Frattin makes camp" or "Frattin signs an extension".  Who knows?  Usually something gets out by now to indicate what those conditions were.

Mirtle did tweet about the conditions:

Leafs included a conditional seventh round pick in trade for Matt Frattin. The condition? Columbus gets the pick if they don't keep D'Amigo.

So since Columbus re-signed D'Amigo the Leafs didn't give up the pick.

I recall reading a tweet from Mirtle that suggested CBJ only got the pick if D'Amigo wasn't signed. He was signed, so no pick. I can't find the tweet to link to though.

While I wasn't crazy about the trade, it's pretty telling that Columbus has used 18 different forwards this season (plus Dubinsky and Horton haven't played a game) and D'Amigo still hasn't seen any action with them. Even his AHL numbers are pretty lackluster so far this season.

I'm not sure. That "keep" might just be Mirtle speak for re-sign, but, it could also mean keep on the NHL roster (they didn't) or keep in the organization for the full season (yet to be decided). Without that clarification, it's still kind of up in the air.
