Not really liking Canada's chances of winning gold this year. They haven't looked great so far, and their goaltending has been pretty ordinary. If they don't get things going today, they might not even make the medal round.

I'd be happy with a medal period, it's going to be tough to even do that it appears.

:-( I'm usually crazy for this tournament (hey, work! I can't work <WJHC schedule> ) but I didn't even do that this year. I'm actually working for the USA/Canada game tomorrow and I've not done that since I've been with this company. This team doesn't inspire me the way the past teams (think Ryan Getzlaf, Bryan Little, Jordan Eberle and especially Jonathan Toews) did…...

Youngest team ever sent. Kinda reminds me of the perils of our young Leaf team. Experience wins championships.

Exciting last half of the third period, Canada scored 2 goals after that no goal call on McDavid and then added an empty netter to win 5-3. Still a lot of work to do to threaten for a medal though.

TV commercial breaks helping Team Canada...every little bit helps...

It shouldn’t come as a surprise, given Sutter’s extensive coaching résumé, but Canada’s coach is using the television timeout smart tactically. With three per period, as opposed to just one in the Canadian Hockey League, Sutter is strategizing during the break and his players are coming out guns blazing following the abbreviated breaks. The largest bursts of intensity and offensive creativity are consistently coming after the timeouts.

In the 5-3 win over Slovakia, Jonathan Drouin began Canada's come-from-behind, while goaltender Zach Fucale settled down (after a "shaky" start).

Next big game and test will be Tuesday (New Year's Eve) when Canada takes on the perfect-record Americans, who just finished routing their opposition, Team Germany 8-0.

GO CANADA GO!!!

I'm liking Gauthier today. Big, physical... Future second line anchor at C? I'd be cool with that.

I was impressed with him as well. In the last minute against the USA top center men Gauthier easily won the faceoffs.
